"Lost Echoes: The Changing Face of Batroun's Souk" delves into the poignant transformation of Batroun’s historical marketplace into a modern-day social venue of cafes, restaurants, and pubs. Through a surreal lens, this artwork captures the bittersweet evolution, where the vibrant present overshadows the rich, textured past. I created this piece as a reflection on the loss of the original charm and history that once defined the souk, now masked by its contemporary and somewhat artificial makeover. The doorway depicted symbolizes the threshold between old and new, where the deep-rooted traditions and memories of the original shopkeepers are fading into the backdrop of modernity. By employing a collage of distorted forms and a riot of colors, the painting expresses a longing for what has been replaced, inviting viewers to feel the nostalgia and sense of loss for a bygone era, hoping that this new phase also brings joy to the residents, despite the profound transformations.
